2014 Gun Dog of The Year
One of my first profound life memories was of my dog, a Beagle named Colonel Jackson. I called him Jackson for short.
I was coming home on the school bus one day and had the feeling something was very wrong when I saw my mom and dad waiting for me at the bus stop. My dad was carrying a basket in his hands. I knew my mom had been crying. My dad told me Jackson was hit by a car and was killed. They brought Jackson to me so I could say a final goodbye to my best friend. Jackson was the greatest buddy a boy could ever have. I was devastated. If only Jackson did not run into the street in front of the oncoming car. If only I would have taught him not to run in the street. I felt empty with him gone. I knew my life would never be the same. Losing Jackson was an event that would change me forever.
As a result of Jackson’s death, my passion for dog training evolved. I never wanted to see a mishap like that happen again to me or anyone else. Throughout my life I have been on a mission to become one of the best dog trainers in the world.
Since 1982, I have studied with many great dog trainers. In addition, I have completed a comprehensive 600 hour training program with Chris Carr, one of the best dog behaviorists in the country. My vast experience includes puppy and dog obedience training, behavior modification and problem solving, Schutzhund training, personal protection training, tracking, temperament testing, and Retriever training to the Master level.
I am a long term active board member with the Pineland Retrievers Club in New Jersey. I regularly train Labrador Retrievers with Joe Eschert, a well known Junior, Senior and Master level teacher and American Kennel Club (AKC) Judge. My dog Hunter, pictured above, was recently awarded the title of New Jersey “Gun Dog of the Year” 2014 and earned his( AKC) Junior, Senior and Master Hunt Test titles through my training program.
